A big hip-hop fan, Iglesias is known as Panda - and even has a tattoo of a panda on his ankle - after a song of the same name from rapper Desiigner. “Es una alegría ver que un jugador que estaba en Segunda RFEF hace un año está ahora en la Selección española. Me alegra haber ayudado en ese proceso gracias a su talento, su esfuerzo y su trabajo. Es un chico que escucha, que cualquier cosa que le dices la intenta llevarla a cabo. Todo aquello hizo que conmigo llegara a ser titular, por eso es un orgullo haberle visto crecer y ver que está donde está ahora mismo. Espero que sea el principio de muchas cosas buenas”, explica Aitor Karanka. El entrenador vasco le tuvo a sus órdenes hace dos temporadas, cuando empezaba a asomar en el fútbol profesional. Con él, Bryan debutó en Segunda División. Aunque fue con Robert Moreno con quien se estrenó con el primer equipo sólo un año antes en la Copa del Rey. No fue una decisión fácil. Bryan venía de destacar en el filial, pero no tenía sitio en un primer equipo, confeccionado para subir a Primera lo antes posible. Callejón, Puertas, Uzuni, Melendo, Rochina, Soro, Molina. “Cuando empezamos aquella pretemporada podría decirse que estaba más fuera que dentro. A mi llegada al equipo en abril ya le estuve viendo y siguiendo en el filial, y en pretemporada, viendo la calidad que había en la plantilla, podría decirse que estaba más fuera que dentro por las dificultades que tenía para quedarse. Sin embargo, quise que entrenara con nosotros y ahí, cuando vimos su desparpajo dentro y fuera del césped, decidimos ayudarle e ir puliendo los errores que cometía hasta el punto de que se fue ganando poco a poco el hueco y llegó a ser titular”, señala Karanka.
Un trabajo individualizado para que mejorase aspectos tácticos y sin balón. Porque el regate era algo innato en él. Charlas individuales, vídeos y muchos consejos. Bryan aprendía y aprovechaba todo eso para seguir creciendo. Porque su sueño estaba más cerca cada día: “La pretemporada le ayudó muchísimo, creció y se vio en un ambiente de primer equipo. Además, la relación tanto con él como con su gente cercana y sus agentes fue magnífica, y esa comunicación con el jugador se vio reforzada porque íbamos en la misma línea. Hablamos mucho con él y potenciamos lo bueno que tenía y tiene, corrigiendo errores porque un jugador como él debe aprovechar su talento”. El 12 de septiembre del año pasado hacía su aparición por primera vez en Segunda con los mayores, pero no fue hasta el 18 de noviembre cuando marcó su primer gol con la horizontal rojiblanca frente al Albacete. Un golazo maradoniano. La primera muestra de lo que era capaz.
